Introduction

Most universities set up the Department of Social Work in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, but the NQMU established the Department of Social Work in the School of Health and Nursing, hoping to closely connect with the nursing department and long-term care department to establish a complete social welfare and medical care network for Kinmen. In order to cultivate talents in the Department of Social Work to invest in local services, the Department of Social Work arranges students to enter social welfare institutions and handicapped centers to serve as volunteers, to understand the needs of community elders and children in remote villages, and to provide after-school counseling and opening interpersonal interaction for students from vulnerable families on outlying islands. The long-term development is a trilogy from volunteer service, internship to social work. In order to help students obtain the difficult-to-obtain social work certificate, our department has a powerful guidance team composed of professors, class tutors, social workers in the industry, and seniors who have passed the certificate to assist students. Since the first class of graduates, half to one third of the classmates in each class are willing to stay in Kinmen and devote their efforts to the outlying islands.
